A Port Carbon monster is headed to state prison for at least three decades after admitting Thursday to a Schuylkill County judge that he raped a preteen girl for two years in Pottsville and filmed at least one of the incidents.

Stephen J. Prentice, 33, pleaded guilty to 10 sex-related charges, including rape of a child and two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, in one case and five such charges, including photographing a child sex act and unlawful contact or communication with a minor-sexual abuse, in a second case.

Judge James P. Goodman accepted the plea and, pursuant to an agreement between prosecutors and the diabolical child rapist, sentenced Prentice to serve 30 to 60 years in a state correctional institution.

“You know you ruined the rest of (the victim’s) life,” Goodman told the pedophile, who also must pay costs, $100 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and $1,200 restitution to the state police, undergo an evaluation by the state Sexual Offenders Assessment Board and submit a DNA sample to law enforcement authorities under the terms of his sentence.

Pottsville police filed both sets of charges against the sex terrorist.

In the first case, police alleged Prentice raped the girl, starting when she was 6 years old, numerous times between 2013 and 2015 when he lived in the city.

Police said the pervert filmed at least one of the rapes.

In the second case, police said the child molester took and stored many inappropriate photographs of the same girl in February and March 2015.

District Attorney Michael A. O’Pake praised Assistant District Attorney Jennifer N. Foose on Friday for her handling of the case. O’Pake also said he was glad the sex criminal was sentenced immediately and that he hopes the victim can have some semblance of a normal life in spite of what her termed the “abominable” facts of the cases.

“My heart goes out to that girl,” he said. “The Prentice matter is a case that, as a district attorney, you hope you never see. The facts ... are very disturbing.”

O’Pake said he made sure the sentence was commensurate with the facts.
