A white cheerleading coach was arrested Friday and charged with sexually assaulting a former student, who was 16 at the time, according to an arrest affidavit.
Robert Thomas Kotara, 33, was charged with sexual assault of a minor as well as burglary of a building for a separate incident.
The victim, now 18, told police that the pedophile had been her gymnastics and cheer coach since she was 10. The victim said the first sexual assault occurred when she was 16 and that the assaults became “a regular occurrence,” according to the affidavit.
During one of the assaults, the victim explained in the affidavit how she was taken to an area hotel and given alcohol after being asked to run an errand with the child rapist.
In another incident described in the affidavit, the victim said she was asked to sit for the pedophile's child while he went to work. Instead, the victim said the two had sex while the child played nearby in the same room.
The affidavit also contained information from another coach who worked at the gym who told police he once witnessed the victim sitting naked on the sex criminal’s lap in his office.
The witness showed police July 2018 text messages of him confronting the rapist about the incident, according to the affidavit. It is unclear from the current affidavit if the witness reported the incident to law enforcement at the time it occurred.
Officials said the victim has tried to end all contact with the child molester, including changing her phone number, but they say he continues to try and contact her daily through email.
Court documents do not specify the gym where the sex terrorist had been working when the sexual assaults occurred, but a Facebook page underthe pedophile’s name says he is the owner of a local Northeast Side cheer and gymnastics gym. Calls to the gym went unanswered Saturday.
Kotara is also named in an affidavit concerning burglaries of several gyms where he was employed, court documents show.
