White Elementary School Principal Accused Of Possessing Child Porn Released From Prison
Christopher Carmichael, the elementary school principal jailed over allegations including possession of child pornography, is out of prison after meeting bail conditions set in federal court.
The principal of Gladys Jung Elementary School in Bethel, the pedophile was jailed in December on multiple federal charges, including possession of child pornography. Court documents show an order for release, to be executed by the morning of Dec. 31.
Prosecutors, however, remain on the lookout for additional insight from the public.
"We're looking for any information the public may have," said U.S. Asst. Attny. Kyle Reardon in mid-December. "If there's anyone with any information about Mr. Carmichael, we ask them to come forward."
The superintendent of the Lower Kuskokwim School District recently told Channel 2 that officers served the district a warrant on Dec. 10 and searched the pedophile's office, taking multiple forms of digital media. The pervert was eventually indicted by a federal grand jury on four counts related to his recent arrest, with court documents showing the child predator was texting an undercover agent whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, urging her to engage in masturbation and asking her to send explicit photos.
In the meantime, prosecutors will continue their search for any additional victims.
"We will proceed on the charges currently alleged," Reardon said, "and continue to investigate any other additional charges that may come forward."
The release order filed in federal court shows the child rapist was to be taken to a transitional housing facility by 10 a.m. Tuesday. His restrictions include home detention and surrender of his passport, and he was barred from any internet usage and contacting any minors without the permission of a probation officer first.
Documents also show discovery is due by the end of this week.
