A former kennel owner was indicted this week in Suffolk on multiple counts of bestiality and animal cruelty, according to a news release.
Richard Patterson, previously of Imperial K-9, LLC, faces the same charges as his wife.
Christina Patterson, 42, was indicted in October on six counts of bestiality and six counts of animal cruelty. She is set to stand trial March 1.
According to court documents, federal agents started investigating Richard Patterson in 2017. They believed he was buying and selling firearms despite a felony conviction.
In July 2017, agents searched the Pattersons' home in the 2400 block of Freeman Mill Road. They eventually found videos of the couple engaged in sex acts with a dog.
Court documents allege the Pattersons had the front toenails of a male dog removed in order to more easily be with the animal.
In May, Richard Patterson, now 48, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Norfolk to one count each of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and obstruction of justice. He was sentenced in November to eight years and four months in prison.
