A diabolical Colorado teen who beat a 10-year-old girl to death with a metal pipe when he was 15 was sentenced to life in prison on Monday.
Aidan Zellmer, now 17, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder earlier this year in connection with the 2017 slaying of Kiaya Campbell. Prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of first-degree murder of a child.
Campbell and Zellmer were walking together to go shopping in the Thornton area when she vanished, according to investigators. The young white devil had told cops that he got separated from Kiaya during a storm.
The little girl’s body was found the following day.
“Fifteen-year-olds make bad decisions but they don’t commit cruel, heinous crimes like this,” District Attorney Dave Young said, according to The Denver Channel. “After striking her five times win the head with a metal pipe, he left her in a field. When he talked to police, he was calm, cool and collected.”
Young, who represents the 17th Judicial District in Colorado, added that Zellmer “misled and deceived police who were looking for her.”
“Thank God we don’t have other 15-year-olds doing what he did,” he said.
There was evidence of sexual assault, but those charges against him were dropped as part of the plea deal.
Zellmer will be in a youth facility until he turns 18, and then he will be transferred to an adult prison. He will be eligible for parole after serving 40 years.
